Hey all,

Getting ready to take the plunge and get a 75gpd RO/DI unit. I am between these two:

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/75-gpd-ro-di-5-stage-plus-system.html

or

http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1TYPHOONIII/TYPHOON_III_AQUARIUM_RO_DI_75_or_100_GPD.html

The BRS unit comes with a pressure guage, how necessary is that? I've read good things on both units.

Let me know your thoughts on how important a pressure gauge would be. It's my understanding that the TDS meter would be most helpful in indicating when I'd need to change out my filters/membranes.

I'm an RO/DI noob so thanks for any input!

I own the BRS 75gpd *DELUXE*.....well not really. I bought the basic 75gpd added on 2 DI canisters and then got all the add-ons for cheap, saved me some money and all i had to do was install all the bells and whistles myself.

have you also looked at: http://www.thefilterguys.biz/

I've head a tonne of great stuff about them and about they're same price as BRS but BRS is more in depth with what goes into their products, they use high quality stuff such as murloc quick connect fittings and only the best micron filters and RO membranes.

personally IMO my BRS RO/DI unit was worth every penny.

And if you're willing to spend a couple of extra bucks I'd go with the dual DI canisters you actually end up saving on DI resin.

And to answer your questions YES and YES.

You will really want to get a pressure gauge because the one on your homes main water ....."supply" will tell you the pressure coming out of right there and not where your RO/DI unit is connected. How else are you going to know your unit is getting the correct pressure needed to run? Most membranes need about 40-50PSI to work properly. When i first connected my unit, my pressure was only 32 and i was so saddened by the fact that i was going to have to dish out another hundred or so on a booster pump but luckily found an easy way to increase the pressure and now its running at about 42-48PSI.

And for the TDS meter i would definitely get one, (i have the dual TDS) its inexpensive and very helpful. I know I wouldn't want to go to do a water change one day and then not knowing the water's no good and then an algae breakout occurs.

Thanks for the info GPrime, I actually ended up getting a great deal on a Spectrapure ProPlus 90gpd unit that has dual inline TDS meters and a pressure gauge.

I have a feeling the water pressure on my faucets is not going to be optimal so was wondering how you increased yours without a booster pump?

Thanks,
