Idea i had, for a 55g FOWLR for a snowflake eel. Would it be better to have an RO unit or just to buy distilled water for water changes?

If its just a FOWLR tank with no corals you don't have to do either. Just treat your tapwater with dechlorinator before you add the salt.

RO is always the better one to use, but in this case it's not that big of a deal. I would still do it though.

cuz i know that buying distilled is alright, but once you pass about a 20 gallon tank, then RO is more economical. i can use tap?

yes because its FO, tap water has a few things thats bad for inverts. also on high lighting tanks like reef it can cause algae blooms.

but with a low lighting no invert tank you should be fine if your waters not to atrocious.

ive never heard of phosphates hurting fish.

are you sure it wasnt nitrates? or perhaps copper(which is very bad for inverts, and at high concentrations fish)?

need to keep the phosphates below 10ppm. nitrates at 0

where did you get the phosphate recommendation from?
