I have had some issues acclimatizing soft water rays so was thinking on getting one of these. I have however read back to David W post who feels this is not a good idea. I am wondering about others thoughts on this and what some other options are. I do not plan to use this forever as I probably change 1000 gallons per week, but for small eyed rays I am looking to keep them alive!

i have allways used R.O water with my ray's, as the water where i live is crap. My friend also use's it on his pealr's and they breed all the time. My tank is on a constant water change, as ive put an overflow on the sump.

don't you have to add additives to the water if you are using RO for freshwater fish? if you have it on constant water change wont the RO water be too pure for the ray?

I think it is usually not recommended because people fail to realize the science behind the water chemistry..

With rays having such a heavy bio-load, all the nitrifying bacteria depletes the minerals that make up your alkalinity.. So just keep your kH and pH up and keep a close eye on them, because they will crash quicker the more "pure" the water is..

Use Seachem's R/O Right..

Could i use a crushed coral substrate in my 75 gallon sump? That should add to the hardness and buffer quite nicely. I have auto topoff to all my saltwater tanks running RO/DI and right now i just have my ray tank t-eed off after the carbon block filters and b4 the RO.

ph is usually the main concern... R/o ph usually doesnt stay stable...

i also have a basket of coral chip with an air stone running through it.

That is a very neat idea. I may do this also.
