species kept: aros, dat, pbass

plan: auto change 10-15% a day with pure RO water on a 300gal system

will add a bag of crushed coral inside the sump

is this a good or bad idea?

if i do this - do you guys still think a weekly 30-40% change is necessary?

thanks for the help.....

I wouldn't use RO water, RO water tends to lose out all the beneficial minerals needed to duplicate the environment.

Normally RO water are used on saltwater tank when added with the synthetic salt, the minerals are added back in. This is partly due to corals that are sensitive with minerals found on our municipal water system.

I used RO water for my saltwater tank and used the waste water of the RO for my freshwater tank. Waste water had gone through 10 and 100 micron filter, carbon filtration and rejected by the RO membrane, much better than tap water.

I don't see why you would need RO Either. Try dripping at that rate and test the water at the end of the week to see if you need to change some or up the drip rate. I've found you can get away with the same or less amount of water when you install a drip system because it tends to be easier to maintain certain levels rather than trying to decrease them.
