I have an RO/DI for my reef tank, but I'd prefer not to burn through the filters for my Cichlid tank.

Should I use RO water or can I get by with tap? Sorry for the noob question, but I've been out of freshwater for about 12 years now and I know a lot has changed.

Will RO will any less susceptible to algae blooms, etc...

Howdy,

Considering you are running a Malawi tank, I suggest you read up on water chemistry those cichlids need. Just visit our FORUM. R/O water is completely unsuitable unless you want to add loads of salts back to the water. Depending on the water chemistry of your tap water you may still have to adjust parameters like hardness and pH. Coming from salt, I am sure you are used to those adjustments.
