What is the difference? Would ray's be at a disadvantage in either obviously after you have added water conditioner? Just wondering whether to get one?

Don't bother. For the amount of water changes you need to do for rays you'll be wasting zillions of gallons of water and spending a fortune reconstituting the RO water.

Rays do well in a whole range of water parameters and don't need reconstituted RO to thrive or breed.

It's a waste. When it comes to RO, I only use it on reefs and do halvzies on plants.

I use all RO. Algae blooms have become few and far between and all the fish look happier for it. I just bought a home unit its been 6 months and I haven't had any problems with it to speak of.

I did both for awhile. Water changes were with RO and then if I needed to fill the tank due to water loss, Id just refil with tap. I usually loose 5 gallons of water a week to evaporation.
I did go get a filter system for my tap, and used it for awhile, but my rays seem to do good now with just tap water. Our water is a little hard here, but for the past 8 months Ive just used tap and they are fine. Prime helps with the water..
