All right. I decided I hate my job, and am going to quit. My roommate is already jobless, so we're now planning a road trip. I need help on a few stops along the way. We're planning on camping, hiking, and fishing on our month long excursion.

We'll be leaving from the Seattle area around July 23rd and heading south toward Portland, where we'll cut east and go into Southern Idaho and over to Yellowstone National Park. From there we're going to travel north into Montana and cut west to Flathead lake for a family gathering I have starting August 16th.

I'm looking for National parks, lakes, campgrounds, etc. that are awesome. I can look at a map and pick some out, but I'd like some first hand knowledge. We'll be in Glacier National Park and Yellowstone for sure. Any tips or tricks for roadtripping will be good as well. I've never done one before.

It's going to be about 2000 miles round trip, which actually won't cost anywhere near as much as I thought. (2000 miles at 30mpg is 66 2/3 gallons of gas at $5 a gallon is $333 in gas). I actually get 32-35mpg and hopefully gas won't be that high.

good luck have fun and by all means take protection.....

Flugtag (look it up!) will be held on August 3rd in Portland, but it sounds like you'll be passing through sooner.

Bagby Hot Springs is about a 45 minute drive from Portland. It has some really nice natural hot tubs in the middle of some of the most impressive old growth forest anywhere on Earth. As long as you go in the middle of the week it's nice and quiet, but weekends can get rowdy.

If you make it a little further South Silver Creek Falls State Park has some great hiking. It's 8 miles from my house, so PM me if you find yourself in Oregon with time on your hands.

Sounds like a good time for sure!

Yeah, that's the 23rd of June to July 1st. I'll have to see what we can do to work something out. I think I'll be in Denver on the 30th to drop someone off at the airport.
