I've got a couple robertsoni and i'm kinda concerned with their eating or lack of. I know they pretty much sift the substrate for their food which i see them doing from time to time but i'm wondering if they're getting enough nutrients. If you keep or have kept them, what did you feed them.

I have four Robertsoni and they eat mostly sinking pellets - Hikari and NLS. Of the four I have three (2M and 1F, I believe) have gotten quite big and chunky, while the fourth (which was always smaller) has stayed quite small. I have recently had some really bad aggression issues, due to one of the two males pairing off with the smaller female - the second male got beat up and the bigger female almost got killed.

How big are yours? Any photos?

Yeah i'm feeding sinking pellets as well but because of my other fish they never make it to the bottom. The robertsoni pretty much stay mid-bottom of tank. I have three (1M 2F i think). They're about 3" - 4". Here's a link to a few pics of them. I recently added sand just for them.

This happens in my tank so I devised a little trick. The aggressive eaters hit the food hard and fast so I start with pretty large pellets and algae wafers which tend to slow them down a bit. They cant swallow the food fast enough because of size. Then I put in the smaller sinkers while they are munching away still on the larger pellets. This works for me.

I started with feeding both floating and sinking pellets but than got both of mine trained to eat fromt he top water. Now they both just eat floating pellets and shrimp for about 2 years now. I know some people say they will never do that but they are wrong.

one thing that i've learned in this hobby is never say never. i hope i can get mine to feed from the top
