Hey, I went with my friend to pick up a filter for his FW tank from craigslist. The guy had torn his tank apart so he gave me some argonite sand and some rock he had from his tank. It definitly seems like it's been out of the tank for a while but it still looks pretty good. The problem is I can't really be sure about what type of bacteria or algae or anything could be in it but it definitly looks good. What do you guys think?

If I washed it well do you think it would be usable in the new tank i'm setting up? If so how should I wash it?

Thanks alot!

treat the rock as dead base rock...

yeah that's completely dry, nothing good still on there.

just an abstract note, from looking at the rock...

take whatever advise you may have gotten from this guy (and even info about his system) with a grain of salt...
most of that rock looks like dead coral heads (i can see some scoylmia, acropora, duncans etc) but they look like the size you'd expect to see them at a store... it's just a blind guess but this guy doesn't look like he took too good are of his tank... it may just have been a horrible accident that killed them... just a warning
