hes been actin real skittish and he wont even look at feeders any one got some tips on how to get him to loosen up a bit, i got him out of the feeder tank at petsmart lol id appreciate it

Yeah Im not sure what you exactly mean by "Skittish" like is he freaking out? Is he sitting at the bottom of the tank and not moving a lot?

Make sure your water parameters are good and add some salt. Salt promotes a stress free environment and it helps with the addition of a new fish.

Other than that Im not really sure what else to suggest, maybe other fellow monster keepers here can suggest otherwise.

Good Luck

Petsmart had a rock bass?? Well, what size tank and tankmates? Provide lots of cover for him, and perhaps dim the lights.. He will get hungry and figure out this is his new home!

hes in a 70 gallon with a bullhead and some plecos, by skittish i mean like every time i go by the tank he gets all scared. ill try to add a little salt thanks for the tips

They're pretty skittish in general until they get bigger.

They don't seem to take to food or become comfortable/friendly nearly as quick as other sunfish.

keep the lights off for a while and throw a ton of feeders in there. how big is he? they like their own hiding spot when smaller and will be verry teritorial of it so make sure he has his own spot. how long have you had him? all rock bass i kept have ate live after being in the tank less then 24hours and have taken prepared foods within a few days. is the other fish possibly stressing him out? and is the tank in a high traffic area?

hes doing pretty good now hes a little timid but i watched him eat a couple feeders so i feel a little better now, thanks for the tips guys

Rockbass are by nature a timid fish. They hide down in between large rocks even when they are bigger in the wild. Mine is always hanging out in the back left corner ot the tank and when I throw a nightcrawler or some bloodworms in he darts out after them and then runs back into his spot. He is also real aggressive when other fish try and swim into his corner and chases them out. Not a nipper or anything just making sure other fish know its his spot in the tank!
