hey how long does it take for your guys' live rock to colonize base rock? im talking so it looks well covered will all the good algaes and other inhabitants. ive had mine for about 2 months and im already starting to see pink algae (what was on my origional live rock) grow on my new rock. is this fast? and also, is it good to let the pink algae grow on things like pumps and the glass? cuz its starting to and if its not good ill clean it off before it gets out of hand. thanks

edit: i also noticed some on my turbo snails. (hehe) should i clean it off or should i let them turn pink? and this is in my 55 gallon Black saddled toby / to be reef tank. and no, he doesnt eat corals. the first coral he tried was my anemone and hes been scared to touch coral ever since.

By pink algae do you mean coralline algae (flat and smooth)? I think they look great on live rock but when they start covering too much area they begin to render your live rock useless due to clotting up the small pores on the rock. Patches here and there is perfectly fine.

in one of my tanks (the 29 with the halide) it's been a year and i fully cant tell the difference other than the positions i put them in.. but it's been that way for maybe 4-5 months now..

but, in my 10 and 75.. i can absolutely tell.. the tens been up for about 5 months the 75 for 1-2

most people's tanks get LARGE ammount of coralline algea.. there's nothing wrong with it unless it gets in the way of the veiw...

k... i also got a huge amount of this black (really dark green) algae that just wont die that has gotten all over everything and now is growing hair-like things so its really nasty covering anything. anyone know how to control this that has it or has had it?

theres a tank at an LFS that is about 180 gallons.

Entire back wall and pumps are covered in the corraline algae, I think it looks great, they have it under control, but really enhances everything in the tank.

im working on turning my lace rock into live rock starting to get some growths on it after only 2 months
