Should I be concerned with the rust looking areas? Heavy metals?
I did the nitrate bottle #1 over vinegar and no reactions.

Gneiss (metamorphic rock, inert), should be fine. The vinegar test is not reliable as a test for dangerous minerals. Regular limestone will bubble with vinegar as well.

That you all for the help
I will post pictures as the build happens

Agree with points above, including limestone and vinegar. Plenty of limestone in my area, I use some in my tanks. I suppose if you kept your water acidic enough it could have an affect, but not neutral or higher. Also, a lot of rocks have some iron in them, both some igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks like limestone. I've used some orange-streaked rocks with no issues at all, not to mention my well water with iron in it.
