Got 3 of these little Hujeta Gar fish in a 55g grow out tank. They are about 4 inches long and relatively skittish.
I'm looking for some appropriate tank mates for them! As said, the 55g is simply a grow out. Not much point in putting a 4 inch fish that's scared of its own shadow in a 125g tank!
I originally had 4 of the Hujeta gars and attempted housing them with a young 3 inch long Channa Ornatipinnis. All was good for about an hour then I noticed he was stalking them.
Before I could get him out of the tank he shot across the tank and hit one of the gars centre mass. Think he broke his spine as he was unable to swim straight and died within hours.
Ive now removed the Channa Ornatipinnis but I'm back on the hunt for some new tank mates for the Hujetas!
The tank has lots of floating plants to provide cover for the Hujetas. Strangely though, they prefer to stay in the mid and lower levels of the tank.
