I had to take it out of it's 37 gallon quarantine tank where it ate just fine when I wasn't watching. Now its in a 125 community tank. I tried frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, and krill but no dice. What's odd is the gar is biting my 5 inch Senegal bichir and briefly chases it. Chased a fire eel once whose larger. The gar is about 7 inch's.

I can pick up minnows but need time to quarantine them.

Do rocket gar have teeth? Worried about the bichir.
Maybe it needs more time to settle into the 125 and will start eating?

They have teeth, but should settle in and eat live minnows, why your waiting to quarantine the minnows try live crickets.

Whoa didn't think they had teeth! Can they draw blood on us? So I tried live crickets yesterday and he didn't budge. At the moment I don't have an extra tank setup for the minnows yet but can work on it ASAP.

I've never heard of any bites, but it's possible they could cause minor lacerations.

Maybe just stressed from the tankmates. Provide some floating plants. Let it settle in. If it doesn’t despite then consider moving it back as it needs to eventually eat.

Quick update that the rocket gar still has not eaten. I tried crickets and no dice. Finally got some earthworms and it actually kind of tried to bite it but didn't go after it. I will try minnows tomorrow but I'm tentative as they are from PetSmart. I have 22 minnows in a 10 gallon quarantine tank.

Does anyone know how long this carnivore can go without eating?
