Hey guys, just wanted to ask if Rocket gars can be kept with real gars such as spotted/florida gars, my rocket gars are just about 4-5" long and my spotted gars are 7-8", would that be a problem? Also how many rocket gars should i get? They sell em at my LPS at 3-5" long, i hear these guys like to school.

Hujetas stay way too small to be kept with real monsters like that. In my opinion that only works as long as both species are still young.

They don't even reach 10", at least not the males and they are really thin, so good food for bigger gars ^^

For the sake of the fish, get something else.

You won't even have to wait for the true gars to outgrow the hujeta gars. It's a a combo that shouldn't work while they're small and will not work once the true gars get bigger. I'd strongly suggest that you seperate them if they're already together

i was thinking of adding a tank divider, atm i dont have enough money to buy a new tank, my new main tank is 150 gals. my rocket gar's are chilling in the hospital tank atm.

Your original post implied they were still at the LFS and you were doing some research first... if you already bought them you are going to have to give them a seperate tank or see how long they last with the gars. You might get a couple months but eventually the gars will start biting, no doubt about it.

Tried many "gar" characins with gar when I was just getting started, it never worked out.
