I see that alot of people on mfk have rocks in there tanks. My question is do you guys get like black algae growing on your rocks. What causes this algae to grow on rocks and how can i stop it from growing on my rocks , also is it the type of rocks that cause it and are some rock better then others when using them for aquascaping

Some types of rock affect ph, like texas holey rock, which is why it gets used in african cichlid tanks a lot. Algae isn't really affected by the rock, just light and nutrients in the water.

My rocks got a good bit of algae on them, but then I got a Fei Feng. Even after being weaned onto other algae-based foods, the whole tank is still spotless

just get chinese algea eaters always does job for me that n siamese flying foxes
Black brush algae? I don't think so. CAEs eventually become nasty as they mature so you have to consider the temperament of the fish instead of suggesting too quickly.

i was just trying to figure what can cause the black algae and i would not get a cae , i have true sae and fly foxes i would put one of those in the tank first but i was wondering what caused it

usually too much light but it naturally grows anyway.do you have the light on alot?if not,is it near a sun source(window/door etc)In any case,1 pleco will clean it all up in a week.
