Where do you all get your rocks/slate/stone for your tanks? Im not going to pay the $2-5 they want at a lfs. Im looking to get a decent amount of slate or other rock for my cichlid tank... I tried home depot but all they sell is slate tiles for flooring..

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Local landscape/rockeries tend to have all kinds of natural stone, cheap.

From my experience they tend to have the best selection (slate, granite, river rock, etc), and are quite reasonable. For little of nothing, you can get all your rock quickly, and pick over literally tons of rock to find exactly what you want.

Check your local listings.

Turned out I had one within 10 miles of my house. This is what I picked up from a rockery, for less than $0.25 quarter a pound, done within a 1/2 hour.

You can go anywhere and get free rocks, in my cichlid tank I went to several river bottoms and local streams and got the kind of rocks that i wanted without having to pay an arm and a leg for them, but with going out in the wild to get them just make sure to boil them to get them really clean.

i got mine from an abandoned rock quarry (can't think of the technical term) that was being filled with water for more fisheries...billions of rocks.
