That rock is granite. Not the best looking in aquariums but, it's all safe to use. Just clean it well before using to remove surface contaminants and dust/dirt.
If your cichlids are Rift Lake species, I'd recommend Tx holey rock or bulk limestone from a landscape/garden center to help in maintaining a steady pH for african cichlids.
