Once upon a time I told my wife if her sister ever needed a place to live, we would always have room. Well, that time has come. I am getting kicked out of a dim, dark basement. Instead I will have the garage. I can't have "just" a garage though. It is upstairs so it has to be presentable. My son is quite the little craftsman so I chose him to do this little job for me. I get the family discount of course. Instead of the 1000 Sq ft I had it's down to 240 plus a little in the living room.
No big deal, finishing off a garage, right? WRONG!! The floor drops 2 1/2 inches in 21 feet. I am about to build a 6X6 ft tank and I want it level damn it! I am pouring an overlay of concrete to make the floor level and raise it 4" at it's highest point currently. This set me back several days but on the positive side I can finish the floor the way my wife said I would. Actually, I like it. It is going to be acid stained. So here is what it looks like towards the end of day one. My son is building the concrete forms tomorrow and we pour the next day.

I had to pour a slab on the garage floor to make it level. It is now 10" taller at the "garage door" then before and 4" higher at the back. Since pretend concrete guys (carpenters) did the job I had to rent a concrete grinder to make the floor smooth. Insulation on the walls, all of the electrical run. I have the room on 3 20 amp circuits and 2 15 amp circuits. There is a total of 28 outlets just for aquarium use. I put them 24" from the floor. I hate power strips.

The laundry room skeleton. I put an extra water source up higher then the machine for my use. I put a PVC drier exhaust over the ceiling, so the lint won't stick. It comes back down and out at ground level. There is a 140 CFM fart fan hooked to a humidistat.

Doesn't look much like a garage from the street. Drywall goes up next. My son managed to find the same siding that Dad installed 20 years ago. (This is the house I grew up in.)

Drywall is up, hardwood step into the kitchen and in pantry floor. Bifold doors covering washer / drier. Crown moulding around top.
