Well as some of you may know i got an intership at my local zoo, roger williams. it's rated in the top 50 zoos in the country. i figured since i'd be working there i'd post some pics of my personal favourite animals and give you a back stage pass to all the construction. roger williams was always famous for its polar bear exhibit but they shut it down to create a whole new north american trail. construction has already begun and im so excited. it shouldnt be done till 2011 so this thread may get old. heres a sneak peak of the design http://www.projo.com/slideshow_flash/zoo/ . many of the animals that are going in are already at the zoo and are just waiting for construction to finish. the bald eagle exhibit is already done and i love them, theyre now in the old polar bear exhibit. the original polar bears were named trixie and norton. norton was famous for being the only wild caught polar bear in a zoo in the US, he was abandoned as a cub and sent to the zoo by researchers. the pair had many babies but unfortunately, trixie died in 2007. norton who was much younger was moved. i tell you this because in 2011 the polar bears going into the exhibit will be their offspring which i havent seen since they were babies so im stoked. this is the old map before construction.

That place is great!
It needs more aquatic exhibits though.
I remember the sideneck's and the rainbows.
They have a NICE waist high glass pond/tank that has been empty for a while also.

The rain forest house is real nice too.
Looking forward to pics.

well right now i agree they do need more water. if your referring to the waist high thing outside it used to have otters but now has ducks. if youre talking about the one inside that looks like mangroves it used to have mudskippers but now it has one clown knife, 5 tinfoil barbs, and 2 archerfish (i am going to talk to them about it cus the tank isnt big enough and the archers are brackish). i really want to see a big sa/ca tank inside tropical america and maybe an african cichlid tank in the elephant giraffe building. im gonna be there all next weekend so pics are coming very soon
