I set up a 55g for a 5-6" black rohm a couple nights ago. Right now the filter on it is a pond pressure filter with a 350gph pump on it. I know its not perfect but its working for right now. Im looking at getting a different set up this weekend and I was originally going to setup a sump for it but after looking at my room and how I placed the tanks its not very feasible. So now Im looking at doing either an emperor 400 or ac 70 one one end of the tank with 2 pengiun 550 power heads on the other side on an undergravel to get the flow I want.

I know theres a huge debate here on which filter is better the emps or the ac110s. Im Leaning more toward the emperor just because I already have 2 but I like the media flexiblity in the acs.

Ideas? I want some current in the tank, and good mechanical

No room, If I dont have room for the sump I was gonna do, I definately dont have room for an FX5. Maybe down the road when I change my tanks around again (trust me it will happen)

i don't think there is any debate, i really like the emperors but the ac110 is a much better filter. just run the 110 with a foam pad and the rest bio and you'll be set.

Either filter would be suitable for a Rhom in a 55 gallon tank, it's only a matter of personal taste. Use the powerheads for current and you'll be fine with either filter.

I personally would chose the Emperor

I have a 6 inch rhom in a 55 gallon. It has a emp biowheel 400 and a 350 gph powerhead at the other end with a pond prefilter on it. It flows pretty good with the course pre filter on it and collects any big chunks of trash in the tank. Ive not had any problem with the water....either when it was setup before, or when I just reset it up a few months back. Water is crystal clear, params are great. Personally my rhom isnt a messy eater, he cleans up all the little peices of whatever it was he ate. Many people on here will say its not enough, but I think its more then sufficient for a single fish that weighs maybe half a pound. Mine only eats about every other or every third day and doesnt leave much.
