This evening, I came home to find my room flooded and the carpet all wet. It turns out the "double tap" valve on my Eheim Pro II 2026 was broken, so the filter was siphoning the water from the tank onto the floor. I bought my Eheim Pro II back in 2004. It has served me well these last 8 years. Eheim's official website sells a replacement valve for $42. Given the filter's age, should I try replacing the part or should I dump it for a new Eheim Pro III?

As a rule, I don't fix most things that are old (obviously, white durable goods, cars and very expensive items excluded), but if you have room and want a cheap (inexpensive) quality backup, you could repair it. I'd get a new one for regular use though.

I dont use ehiem, but check if any of the o-rings snapped, coz it could be something as simple as that ;)

I have the same model, same broken part... Amazon has the part for $20. Hard time getting rid of a good filter...

As scary as it is, I plastic bonded the broken piece, its held strong for a couple months now...

Tho anything I have ever bonded that way, has always seemed to be stronger than the plastic itself.

If your broke the same place mine did, i would say its a slight flaw in design. I have my hoses braced just off the filter, so that they come straight off the input/output tap valve, mine broke because the lines came off the valve and immediatly were "pulled" sideways b/c of the way my lines were ran, thats alot of constant pulling on the plastic tap valve.

I honestly think going out and spending a couple hundred bux on a new filter is a waste unless your unhappy with this filter... $20 to get it back up and running compared to $200+ for another good quality filter.

Get the new part, and just make sure your input/return lines are ran clean off the filter, straight out, so there is no tension. Problem solved.

If you have had this filter for 8 years, i would only assume that you were happy with its filtering ability...

And if not... ill take that "broken" filter off your hands
