Hi i got one of my cuzns a rope fish and i noticed it's right eye is clody and it has like this little single string thing coing out of it. I was like that when i bought it and i had not noticed it when at first untiul it already arrived to the house. well any ways thats not important. Just wondering what the sickness could be? it probably from poor water conditions, or infection or something. sometype of eye parasite or fungus maybe?

not sure. His other eye is perfectly fine. =D

Now what should i do with him, be is right now in a 10 gallon quaritine tank, and yes he does fit in the tank for now, hez only5" long so that tank shoudl be fine for hopitalizing.

Any ways what meds should i use and other things to do to it? =^_^=?

I heard about treating it, naturally, with salt and melafix for five days. Not sure if there is any truth to that. Best to use the salt for sure, and to also raise up your temp a little too. Beblondie will know for sure though.

oo yes yes i have lots and lots of api salt i shall give bring some of there house tomorow =D and the temps is currently raised up to 30 dgrs.. as for melax fix, ill need to buy some of that if it will help, hopefully the falling water from an Aquaclear power 20 filter will be enough areation to counter act the melax's oxygen stealing effect. I hopes my cuzn rope fish gets better, they really like their snake like creature. =^_^=

check the water chemistry

Is the quarantine tank established? Is there some form of 'seasoned' filter running on it?

Sounds like poor water, but the thread thing could be parasite. When the ropefish takes a rest, watch the thread. If it moves by itself, then you know it's a parasite, and you'll want to use 'Parasite Clear' made by Jungle Labs. Inexpensive, each box treats 80g's, and cost about $3

HTH

ps. keep the water clean and make sure the lid has no holes for the fish to get out.

ropefish breath air so don't worry about O2-Anne

oh yeah i instructed my cuzn to put masking tape on all the possible exit points of the tank =D including the filter area =D, as for water chemistry, i would have to blame the pet store i got it from, cuz i KNOW for SURE it was from there, trust me on this lol =D. The hospital tank water was actually an established 5 gallon tank with a crayfish which was moved in the big main tank for now. And the Big main tank(40gal) should have read low on most things becuase its new water that has been running for like 5 days with nothing in it but a single platty which was from the established 5gal tank. =D
(<--- wow thats was long =0_o=.. HI HI =^_^=)

i think the pet store might get offended if i go there and ask to check their water =S they might think wierd of me lol. i cud try, the owners wife is cool with me any ways lol.

but any ways yes the problem is now treating mr rope fish =D
Ill double check if the stringy thing moves hopefully tomorow if not ill ask them to look closely at it stringy thingy on itz right eye, whether it moves or not. =S

EDIT: oh crap i forgot about their air breathers eheheh =^.^=;;

I might be confused, but if it's "new water" with nothing in it but 1 platy, then it's not cycled, right? If that's the case, it won't be "low on most things" for long.

yes is not fully cycled water =^___^= thats why for sure the bad water quility cud not have came from mine.. lol. mr rope fish eye ball was like that when i got it lol.

Well tehres only one fish and then.. and soposta be the rope fish until it got quarintined...

the main tank with the not so cycled water, we dont really feed the single fish in there much, and theres only one so im pretty sure we wont get any amonia spikes or anything yet. If anything a lil bit of the fish waste should help jump start Happy Bacteria! mmm Yummy =D

But yeah.. nevermind the main tank, lets worry about mr ropefish whos in the established 5 gallon tank =^___^=

oh btw very cool avatar you have! I jsut noticed it is a rope fish! Cool Cool =^__^=

Hurray! The Rope fish lost the Anchor Worm on itz eye and itz not cloudy any more!!! Soon it can now be put back in the main tank Yay!! =^___^=
