does anyone know where i could order a rope fish from? or if a place like petco or petsmart would order one for me, and would that be the best eel like fish to put in a 55 gallon tank or would another eel be better suited for it?
i have had 2 rope fish, one died from a sick feeder fish and the other was diseased when i got it. luckily my other fish survived. i did have a peacock eel but, as they have been known to do, it somehow jumped out of a very small corner between my filter and the tank and i found my little buddy in the floor the next morning stiff as a board
Id check with Snookn21 or aquabid.com. I would go with the rope fish they are pretty active an very interesting fish. Very underrated. One of my favorite fish. They can get long but not usally thicker than a pinky finger. If you can get more than one it would be better cause they like to hang with eachother. I had one that would chill with my two lil Bichirs. good luck
i absolutely loved both of mine until they died. i was extremely upset when my first one died because i had him over a year and bam, one sick feeder comet from petco and there he went. i got my money back on the second one because it came with the ich or lice or some type of disease and it died within a day. but the first one was very active and he was about 14 inches long. i wish i still had pictures. are bichirs agressive? i have always liked those little things
$35 may seem like a lot but you are paying for quality healthy fish. That are eating. Most places you will be paying $15-$20 for just one anyways. Other site will charge you 40-60 for shipping. Plus next day delivery an where in the us. If you really want one thats the way to go.
so what would you suggest to feed them? i had one for over a year so i know it was eating i just never actually saw it eat lol. it was kind of shy when it came to eating. or do you know what they are feeding them?
While there are more beginner friendly fishes that cost less the rope fish is one of my favorite fish I've ever owned, even better than my former prized G. tile. Ropes should live for a while in a 55 gallon but really they need a 6ft. x 2ft. footprint to grow out to there real potential. They can grow between 2 and 3 ft. long if kept long enough in a good enough tank.
