is it possible to keep ropefish with an oscar? note: i can also leave the oscar out. and id like to hear your experiences with ropefish! i already plan to have 3, as ive read on many other threads that they like to be in groups. good, bad, great, love to hear them all. i heard they are a fun fish to keep.

Their pretty cool IMO. Very underrated.

Might worry putting them with an oscar. I think I have seen a picture on here of an oscar turning a ropefish into spaghetti :(

I have 3 of them, but they don't hang out as a group and they all have completely different personalities and actions.

Mine eat blood worms, black worms, earthworms, shrimp, and cichlid pellets. Today, one actually learned to eat flakes off at the surface.

They can be shy, and they seem to come in in bad shape a lot at the lfs. Plus they were escape a tank with ease. Gotta cover every single whole

i have kept in a 55 gal with 1 tiger oscar and 1 rope fish 1 redtail shark and 1 huge pleco they did great. untill the oscar past away when i had to move

thanks for all the replies, i took the oscar off that tank list and added angelfish instead. dbcb, i added onto my what to feed knifefish thread, they still wouldnt eat. i plan on keeping some ropefish in the future with my bichirs

Ropefish are very interesting fish. I have 4 rope eels and a peacock eel. I also recently purchased a 3 inch oscar. Last night I saw my oscar eating his floating cichlid pellets beneath the moon light at the surface and one of my small rope comes swimming by to eat to. The oscar looked like he tried to bite him numerous times, but he could've been going after the food. Not sure yet. I will have to investigate further.

But the ropes are a very cool fish to keep. My four live happily together in a small castle. They intertwine with eachother all of the time. If one comes out, they all do. Whenever I do water changes, they are out enjoying the freshwater all day and night. At least one of them is out and about all day. But they all come out at night. Mine eat rosey reds and vegie wafers and basically anything left over. I rescued all of mine from walmart. They each had white ammonia patches on their skin and they have healed 100% within a month. Get these fish!!! You won't be sorry!! Wait until you see one eat a minnow, it is so cool. It takes about 20 min to swallow if big enough, so they swim around with half a minnow sticking out of their mouth. And you can see the huge lumps in their bellies!!!
