I have had about a dozen ropefish for over 4 years now and they have all sorts of versions of their colors but recently one caught my eye that is turning gray. Haven't noticed any other symptoms, he's eating fine currently.

He's in a 75 with the rest of them.

There has been many threads about polypterus species discolouring and since ropefish are related to polypterus/ are actually a polypterus species (not entirely sure), it should be fine. I don’t think anyone has a clue why it discolours…

I found articles with similar information but I wanted to double check cause there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of posts about them with much information. Just wanted to be sure he isn't dying lol. I have 14 ropes, a few polys, an eel and a rainbow wolf in there so if the tank got hit with something I'd want to be proactive as possible.

Think it’s fine. Have some color variation so as long as it’s acting normal and water quality is good then watch.
