I keep getting mixed feed back on tank size from different sources. I know they like to be in groups, but some people say 150gl, others 75 and some say 40.

So how many (if any) ropefish would be a healthy amount in a 55gl bow tank?

Read my Sig :)
They like to be in groups but it doesn't matter.

What else would be in with them?

I've got 6 in a 60g with other bichirs, I'm stocked.

Well I kinda got a lot in my tank, but they're all babies.

6- Glass Catfish
4- Silver Dollars (1.5 inch)
4- Angel fish (1.5 to 2.5)
2- African Butterflies
1- African Brown Knife (4 inch)
1- Parrot Cichlid (3.5 inch)
1- Senegal Bichir (4 inch)
1- Striped Raphael Catfish (2.5 inch)
1- Eclipse Catfish (2 inch)

I've been told that Parrot cichlids shouldn't like the same water conditions as angels and bichirs. Ive never had issues though, the little guys always been healthy and active.

Your kind of over stocked

Yeah I kinda figured that. I wouldn't mind moving some things around.
I'm not particularly attached to the glass cats or silver dollars.
One of the butterflies is getting bullied by the other, just haven't found someone interested in taking it.
I like my bichir, and my mom calls the parrot cichlid 'her boyfriend'.
The catfish were kinda impulse buys, the eclipse was born with one eye and I thought he was neat.
The raph was really getting picked on in the tank at the store.
To be honest, I only really like one of my Angels. ):

Anyone have suggestions on how to make my tank more rope appropriate?

My tanks now:

4- Silver Dollars (1.5 inch)
3- Angel fish (1.5 inch)
1- African Butterfly
1- African Brown Knife (4 inch)
1- Parrot Cichlid (3.5 inch)
1- Senegal Bichir (4 inch)
1- Striped Raphael Catfish (3 inch)
1- Eclipse Catfish (2 inch)

Is this a bit better? And is this type of tank big enough for once everything is full grown?

IMO your tank wasn't over stocked in the first place.
Your setup is fine nothing would bother the Rope, I would get two. When I first bought one I rarely saw him now with two they're always up to no good together.
