I bought a ropefish a little while ago, I think he suffered a boo boo when he was being transported to the shop because he had a little mark on the side of his head. This little mark quickly became a big fluffy white spot, and he developed a couple tiny little white spots along his back, and his eyes became cloudy (I'm not sure if they're always like that or not). I'm pretty sure it's a fungal infection which I've been treating with fungus gaurd for four days now. The spots aren't getting better and he still won't eat. (He had a couple of bites of shrimp when I got him but that's it). I've tried bloodworms, earthworm, and sinking pellets. Can someone please help me save my fish?

welp, it just went from slithering around on the bottom, to keeled over and dead. Thats fun. I would still be very curious to know what else I could have tried. Thanks for any feedback.

In retrospect it's diffacult to know exactly what happened. Tetera Fungus Guard is a combination of Potassium Dichromate & Furan 2. Without knowing your water perameters I have know way of knowing weather or not this was the best treatment option. A clear picture of the affected area would have also been helpful in trying to determine what you were treating. Some bacterial infections resemble fungus and while not a true fungus need to be treated differently. You will see some posts on variuos web sites that say "this (insert medacation here) stuff is crap! It killed my fish" then you read on and you find out they treated a pleco with malachite green and the Ph was 7.8 so yes in that case the medacation was used incorrectly and as a result the fish is dead. I often see people post for help after the fish has been sick for a long time and only post as a last resort which makes it very diffacult to affect a cure. Treating fish over the internet is far from an exact science and some times you try somthing based on the infromation provided and it doesn't work so you have to try somthing else. I don't know what you cold have done differently without more information. What you shouldn't do is beat yourself up over it, use it as a learning tool and move on. I've lost more fish than I care to admit over the years, it's part of the learning curve which in this hobby is considerable. In short, stuff happens. If you have any questions just ask there are alot of very experianced and knowledgable hobbiest on MFK to help you.
