Has anyone here seen an albino/platinum/mela/xanthic/etc. reedfish? I know I've seen plenty of albino, platinum, and melanistic bichirs, (and I think even one xanthic,) but NEVER have I seen any reedfish variants. I feel like there's no way they don't exist, but I've never seen it.

They are not bred commercially, so the chances of any weird colours surviving in the wild is low, and making it to our tanks is probably near impossible. Would be cool to see though.

That sucks. I just hope, eventually, when someone, somewhere in the world, gets ahold of one, they provide pictures so the evidence won't be lost

Think there was a xanthic posted a while ago (years). None since i can recall but if there were any i’d guess it’ll be more in the asian markets.

It has been done, the young just don't seem to live past a year which is odd. More attempts are definitely needed!
I actually read in a book from the library that they can breed in captivity but only in brackish water/ its the babies that need the brackish water too survive its something like that.

I have a saved post of an albino one somewhere on the site, I’ll look for it for you.
