Ropefish?'s

Is a ropefish the same thing as a reed fish. My lfs had tiny one (2") for $8.99 any info on these guys? and arethey the same?

yup same fish. AFAIK tankmates are pretty much the same as the smaller bichir species. Congo tetras, synodontis, african butterfly fish, african brown knife, etc. Check the list in the bichir primer sticky for more

I've got a 12" one. Pretty awesome fish. Grows to around 20" I believe. Living happily with a delhezi, two sens, six congos and an african butterfly.

they dont get much over 12" in captivity

i got 4 over a foot but 2" is really small and keep in mind they grow very slow reedfish ropefish snakefish all different names for these fish

i have mine with africans, bgks, balas, tinfoils, silver aro(before now in diff tank due to kittens), plecos, and a silver gar...

They may hide alot...but when they come out, they are fun to watch. I have one in a 55 gallon, with a Congo Leaf fish, A brown african knife and an african featherfin catfish... I want to add another ropefish along with a New Delhezi, a butterfly fish, and elephant nose fish, a baby whale and 4 congo Tetras...and maybe a cucakoo catfish

I call my rope fish Mamba. AT first i just wanted one..but now..i want 2.

I just might do that...get about 3or 4...but i dunno...i am running out of cool african names for them lol..Some unlucky fish in my african set up might be getting the name voodoo lol.

You are right though..they do better together ..but i have only a 55 gallon, and i want to add a New delhezi, along with another african catfish..that might be to much competetion for food...but then again i am adding more filteration because i will be feeding this tank larger portions of food twice a day once it is stocked.
