Hey all, I'm thinking of trying something and I want to know if it seems okay.

I have a 55g standard tank I've been trying to sell but just can't (brand new too! ><), and I was thinking maybe instead I'll have it cut down to a 30-40g size giving me a really long, thin, low tank. 48x12 footprint and 12-15 height.

Could I keep my 3 ropefish, senegalus bichir and bushy nose pleco in there happily for life, or maybe for the next few-several years?

If it does work, how much do you think it might cost to have a tank cut down several inches and have the plastic lip re-attached?

I would really love to know if that works, any opinions would be appreciated!

The stocklist would definately work, but I don't have a clue about how much cutting the tank would cost.

I would say it would work better as the 55 it is now...I mean, what you want to make has the same dimensions as a 55 but shallower but DIY? I would just leave it how it is lol.

Main factors are to have the 20 less gallons (I hobby on a budget... sort of) and have a really cool-looking tank. Also later the tank could go to my siren, who doesn't need 55g all to his lonesome, aannndd.... Ropes/siren seem to appreciate shallower water so I think they'll like it better shorter. AND I want to make use of my $150 ill-spent, why not make a mistake into a cool custom tank?

Though if it turns out to be too expensive or hard to do I'll just forget it...
