My pet shop has a 8'' rose cichlid for $65. Do I have hae been around cichlids for many year, I have not heard much information on this rose cichlid. Does anyone have any informaiton on this fish, like where does or did it come from? Is it a hybrid? How can you tell if it is a male or female? What's there worth? Would it better to get a red devil instead? Looking to add some color to my aqaurium.
thanks

Would it be a Rose Queen cichlid? If so, then there is a lot of information on this hybrid cichlid. They are pretty aggressive fish that get a nice reddish/purplish color to them when older.

As for the price it seems fair for 8 inch fish.

Its a Hybrid. They can be very aggressive and males will grow a large kok so at 8 inches you should be able to tell if its a male or female. As for weather or not to get the Rose Queen or the Red Devil, that is up to you and depends on what you like. I would probably skip them both and get a nice Midas.

Yes, I think he said rose queen cichlid.
So they are just as aggressive as red devils? I may pass of this fish then. Looking to add color but not to much aggression.

I thought Red devil and Midas carry the same aggression? What's the distintive difference.

I have found the PRQ to be less aggressive the Midevils. In terms of color options you can find some really nice midevils and midas can be stunning as well like piebalds and barred. Rose Queens do not have as many color variants except for purplish color.

Both cool fish

I see, thanks, good information..

It is hard to tell the difference since you see a lot of midevils (red devils x Midas cichlids). True species are both quite aggressive but it all depends on the individual fish, Tank size and other factories.

If you want color you should look at the veija family of fish

I actually have two 4-5'' Veja synspilum (suppose to be pair), they have not really popped any serious color yet. As of now they look like grey cichlids, along with the other gray/silver fish( blk bar silver dollar, silver arrowna, armatus, royal knife, etc, etc. Other than a couple peacock bass and Dat, tank looks pretty one color. Would really like some serious RED's/orange Blue's and yellow's, but fresh water fish just don't posses thse colors it seams. I will order two Super Red Severums today.
