Hi everyone, I was just wondering what two species hybridize to make rose queens? Also, what physical features make them unique, if any. How would you differentiate a rose queen from a red devil or midas or similar looking flowerhorn?

I've seen some pics of "purple" or "super red" rose queens on here or some other sites, which are really red in color. But I think the more common ones are usually pink, which makes them look a lot like a red devil color-wise. Adult rd's have a fat lip, but at the juvie/peeling stage, I'm guessing it's hard differentiate between them?

Thanks in advance.

I've heard read devil X synspilum = rose queen.

Mine looks like a red devil with a taller body and very vibrant colors.

When it was a juvie I couldn't tell it apart from the synspilum I was keeping it with. Here are the pictures I have of growing up.

still has a lot of growing to do but I think the colors will remain the same.

Yeah, I also thought rose queen was red devil X synspilum. Thanks Camphilophus for the great pics. I think it is quite a beautiful rose queen.

I actually have ten of them. Only one of them have begun to peel. And I've only had them for almost a month. I actually paid $5 each for them and they were only about 1 1/2" to 2".

rose queens are beutiful fish i got 1 i bought it for 12$ the price is higher then your but i still love it its still a baby not peeling yet

Out of all the fish i own my rose queen is the meanest. My rose queen was bought from Tropicalfishdistributors and was $25.00. It was 4.5 inches. Its now 6 inches. I wish it wouldnt be so aggressive so i could try to breed it with any of my fish but it rips other fish in half so quickly. Its in solitary confinement for the remainder of its life.Maybe someday a conjugal visit may happen but so far its a no go.
