I currently have 5 full grown Roseline Sharks in my 120 gallon tank. The largest one isn't looking so good. It almost looks as if his scales are coming off and developing some type of sores. I noticed a large white spot on his right side and it has since looked to healed up some but now all the skin around it is turning a dark blue/purplish color. There are also white developing on top of his head. My other Roselines look fine but a few of are starting to look the same as this one did in the early stages.

I have notice some large Nitrate spikes lately and have been changing the water every other day to get it down which has been working. Not sure if this could be causing it.

What is this and how do I fix it?

Here are some of the best pictures I could it.

Two of my Arulius barbs have the same thing. I've seen a few threads where people are experiencing this. Not sure if I'm just noticing it more now since my fish have it, but it seems like lots of people are experiencing this issue. Subscribed to see if anyone has any ideas. I'm thinking perhaps Flavobacterium columnare (columnaris)?

Can you post your water perameters. Include Ph, hardeness and normal temperature setting.

Hey Bryan, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but it looks like I'm having the same "outbreak/issue" so hopefully it's ok that I post here instead of creating a new thread with the same question.

Below is a pic of my Arulius that's in the worst shape. Some of the other fish are starting to show signs of the same issues. Some fish don't have the whitish tissue, but they have scales just like you describe that look like they are falling off...they look ruffled.

My water Parameters are as follows:
PH8.0
Ammonia = 0
Nitrites = 0
Nitrates = never over 20 (currently 10PPM)
Hardness = 82PPM
Temperature = 78F

I just added 1 Tablespoon of salt per 5G of water.

Anyone know what this is?

Tank size: 770 Gallons with a 150G sump.

Stocklist: I realize I may be overstocked, but my water quality is always very good.

12 Yellowtail Rasbora- Rasbora tornieri
9 Arulius Barbs- Puntius arulius or Dawkinsia tambraparniei
9 Filament Barbs - Dawkinsia filamentosa
18 Clown Loaches- Chromobotia macracanthus
4 Red Fin Bala Sharks- Cyclocheilichthys janthochir
1 Lutino Oscar- Astronotus ocellatus

Looks like a fungal infection. Large water changes with salt is a good first course of action. You could also treat with API Fungus Cure in either the main tank or in a hospital tank less expensive but you will still need to do large frequent water changes in the main tank. If any of your fish are sensative to Malachite Green (loaches, bala sharks, SD) Fungus Cure can be buffered with API Triple Sulfa to make is safer to use. Use the 3X full strength with the FC on the sensative fish if they need treatment.

At any rate if you combine both meds it will cover both fungal and bacterial and make treatment safer for sesative fish.

thanks for the advice. I do have Clown Loaches so that helps a lot.

Hey Bryan, is it clearing up?

I'm shocked at how quickly my barbs have healed up. I've been doing 50% daily water changes and used salt (1tblspn per 5G) and it's almost entirely cleared up. FYI, I also have CLs (17 of them) and they are doing fine with the salt treatment.

Hope your Roselines are doing better.
