About a month ago petsmart had a great deal on roseline sharks (pruntis denisonii) and i couldnt resist. But since ive had them their color has slowly been fading. Theres very little red in them and there was never any yellow. I figured theyd grow into their color but just the opposite is happening, their in a 75 gal tank right now with angels, black skirts, corys, and a few cae. Running an emperor 400 weekly wc if not twic eweekly depending on params, which have all been excellent. Is there something i can do or are these guys just breeder rejects? I kno petsmarts like the worst place for fish but its all ive got within a two hour radius.

I love P. denisonii, they're so beautiful but I've been unable to find them at any lfs.

What are you feeding them? Also, is it possible they are stressed from being bullied? My angels bullied my emp tetras, so they never displayed their full purple coloration until I took the angels out.

If everything is fine with your setup, then its possible they are just bad specimens. A couple fish that I've bought from ps were bad quality (golden dojo, flame dwarf gourami, etc)

Roselines come from cool, fast flowing streams (66-77F). Meaning their water is constantly being changed. Upping water changes, feeding high carotene foods, and keeping temps on the cool side might help. Adding a powerhead might provide a more natural environment.

Im running the temp around 80... ill dial it down a bit and see if that helps. The angels dont bother anyone, ive got 5 and im extremly suprised at how non aggressive they are. I do also have an emperor in there that i forgot about, but coloration isnt a problem in him. Im leading towards bad specimens, but ill down the temp and try adding more variety to their diet.
