In a few days I will have an empty 125 (72x18x22). I'm tossing around some options and I was wondering id I'd be able to fit Fossorochromis Rostratus and Champsochromis Caeruleus together comfortably in this size tank, and if so, how many of each? Also, would it be better (if I was able to keep these two together) to keep all males?

If keeping these guys together in a 125 isn't a good idea, would it be feasable to keep a group of either one species alone in there?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have two rostratus inna 210. I thort they were opposite sex until a venustus spawned which brought out the colors in the subdominant male. All out war for a few days.

As long as there are no girls in the tank you should be ok. Right now both of them are colored up real nicely and they keep every one away from spawning with the venustus.

I have a champs in that tank also but it is a juvie and we are still not able to sex it yet. Looking for another one or two if I can find them locally.

You will be fine. I have a breeding group of champs 1m/8f and 2m/6f of Rostratus in a 210. As long is filtration is not an issue you will be fine. Granite, the fossies are very "messy" when it comes to eating as they drop some bombs. Just make sure there is not a lot of "hiding" spaces for territorial disputes. They have been in this tank for a year and everyone is doing just fine. The problem about asking this type of question is that people who keep 2-3 tanks just honestly do not "know" how to house different species in tanks. Especially "BIG" type haps because 80% of the time they have them in a 55g tank.... Hope this helps.

do it....

thats a great pair of gorgeous big fish.

Thanks for the replies and all the helpful insight everyone!
