What colour are rosy barb eggs when fertile?
If they are clear straight after spawning does it mean they are not fertile or will they change colour over the next 2 days?

Im surprised you can even see the eggs lol, they're tiny. I've never seen my Rosy's eggs but if you can see eggs they probably are good because unlike cichlids, rosy barb females require a male to squeeze the eggs out of them. You should know very soon though if you see some thread-like creatures flicking around the tank.

Good luck!

I got a magnifying glass, one of them just popped outta its egg, its a pathetic looking thing, almost completely clear, i can c a tail with a sack which it will probably feed off 4 the next few days, cant c any eyes though.

Yah they start off tiny. Make sure there is some sort of infusoria in there, or some other microscopic life for them to eat or they wont survive in large numbers. It's hard to describe the point I will now refer to but, once they are of a size to be able to consume baby brine shrimp start them on that right away it will give them a huge growth boost, more so than any other fish I breed.

If you want to know what size food is suitable for small fry then a good general rule of thumb is that their mouth size is the same size as their eyes. (Eyes are much easier to see). A good food between infusoria and baby brine shrimp size is vinegar eels (Turbatrix aceti). Very easy to culture and harvest.

If you want to induce Rosy barbs then just drop the water temp a few degrees in the evening and they will spawn at sunrise. I usually spawn in buckets and just remove adults the next morning so the bucket becomes the hatching and initial raising tank.

The LFS gave me powdered flakes, said it would b fine 4 them, not 2 sure i should believe them though, its Nutrafin staple food for all fry....?

Powdered food is far too large at initial stages. As for their spawning habits, that is pretty normal yup. They spawn every morning in my experience. The trick of course, is saving the eggs and raising the fry. The more you do it the greater yield you will be able to get out of one spawn. They're a good fish to learn the basics of egg scatterers (so are Zebra Danios) because they don't require very special conditions to spawn. Once you've mastered those, you can move into tetras and rasborae.

I just breed rosy barbs about a month ago and now i have about 50 little ones swimming around. Best thing for food for them is inforusia (green water). Start feeding them when you see them free swimming. after you can see their mouths then start feeding them the powdered food.

Yes it is normal for them to spawn again a few days after. I removed mine from the breeding tank and put them back in the community tank and 2 days later they were at it again. I didnt move them to another tank this time though because I wanted to keep focused on the first batch to make sure I wont have any problems raising them.

Just wondering but did you make a spawning mop or anything for them when they spawned? I made 3 spawning mops out of yarn for mine.

As for egg color. Clear is good. When the eggs turn white then they are not fertile. Also you can see them with your eye if you look really really close.

Good luck with your youngins. Keep us updated.
