Im debating throwing some of my rosy barbs into an outdoor pond for the duration of the summer to give it some colour and in hopes that they'll multiply without my intervention for a change. I live in Canada so it gets cooler at night but it's rarely below 70. My other concern is that since it isnt my pond I can't count on the fish being fed every day although I think the person is fairly dilligent about such things I dont want to assume. Will the bugs etc be enough for them? We're just looking for things that can liven up the pond but that aren't goldfish.

Try it and post results.

yeah sounds cool takke lots of pics and keep us updated. if the pond has plants then there will be lots of small bugs in them.

How big is the pond and has anything else taken up residence there (turtles:nilly:)?

They're good from 65*F to 80*F so if the pond is deep enough there shouldn't be a problem.

Acclimatize the fish, don't just thro them in tho.

I have kept my Roby Barbs in with my Koi from day #1. I started with 8 and now have about 50 (after 1 year) with no work on my part. Pond temps in the summer have hit 82F and in the winter they even hit 37F and they survived wonderfully. In the winter I don't provide any feed for 4 months yet they live off whatever is available in the pond.
