Rotkeil Severum Sex ID.

Hi,

I brought 2 rotkeil severums home about 3 days ago and was really hoping theres a chance they are Male and Female. The fish farm where i get my fish keeps their fish in cement ponds instead of aquariums so its impossible to sit there looking for traits. Its pretty much luck of the draw. Anyway, here is a Picture of my questionable "He". The other one Im 99.9% sure is a Female. She displays all the traits and her head is completely blank apart from a Blue shadow on her sheeks. No dots or wormings.

Based on facial markings alone, I would say male. Also really good color on this fish, just have to fatten him up a bit.

Thanks alot guys! Any other opinions? Im trying to get a good Picture of the other one to be 100% certain theyre Male and Female.

Your picture is a male, based upon the facial markings. They can be quite variable from male to male, but the worm-like lines and dots are the tell tale sign. The female, as you've said should have no or minimal facial markings. Here are two pics, one of a male and the other a female.
