Hi,

I noticed that my rotkiel pair finally laid eggs, but they are in a 300 gallon comm tank with some clown loaches, lots of other severums and an arowana, Planning to remove the eggs and hatch in another tank?
Would this have any negative effect on the parents if i removed the eggs?
also any tips on raiisng the eggs separately?

thanks.

I have never been involved in any of this but from what i have heard you must leave the eggs with the parents until they hatch?! After the fry are "free swimmers" you can remove. Hopefully someone else that has raised babies before will chime in. If not, try the search?

i;ve tried to remove fry after they hatched from my sevs but unfortunately they wouldnt eat. ive heard they go crazy for micro worm cultures and other things that you grow from a small size. maybe try leaving them this time with the parents to see how they do. in a large tank like that some may survive

I've done this exact thing several times. I took the eggs out with a bucket of the same water and never let the eggs hit the air. Then I took a ten gallon and filled it up with the same water from the tank the eggs came from. Next, got a small power head to SOFTLY push water over the eggs. Add some Methelyane Blue. And Wait. Keep the lights on the same cycle as the big tank. No water changes till they are free swimming. Water changes were partly RO and partly big tank water until the fry were stable, meaning after the yolk sac is gone. I'm in a hurry and may have missed something, good luck.

Oh, the parents won't care at all after about 30 min.
