aside from my already crappy day, I come home to feed my fish krill and black worms. my little peru flower ray ate normally and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. a few hours later after dinner, I saw the ray splashing at the top which isnt completely out of the ordinary and then he sort of floated down sideways but landed on his belly and continued to swim normally. 10 minutes or so after that the front part of his disk curled up, but only the front. it wasnt the typical death curl. it was like he was opening his mouth to something in front of him like he would do to a piece of shrimp or worm, but instead he held the position. i had done my usual weekly water change the day before and the water parameters are their usual numbers. i go out with a few friends and come home to a dead ray with no death curl, no visible marks, and no signs of starvation whatsoever. i've had the ray for 2 months. so far, i see no reason why he passed... now im looking for peru flower rays again. this can be a frustrating hobby at times.

sorry!!!

ummmm why do you think it died??? was it wild cuaght or CB?

too bad man

i didnt cut it open, it didnt cross my mind and i already disposed of it. that might have been a good idea. i dont think it was parasites because the ray was nice and fat.

I'm sry to hear that:( , This is a reason why I'm nervous to get a FW ray. I could spend $300 and have it die a few months later, which Is why I'm doing heavy reading on them. I wish you the best of luck with any future rays you get:)

have you cut it open ?
see if there are either a gut load of parasites or a fishing hook in its intestines somwhere

i found a fishhook in my tank a few years back
I think it came from my male leo this is a good possibility
i have heard they catch rays with hooks and ofcourse the ray swallows the hook sometimes it will pass sometimes it will tear there insides up

wow, that is amazing. anyways, i dont think too many people have this happen to them. my yepezi ray has lasted a long time and is a pig and has been a pleasure. read up on the fish but dont be too hesistant

Sorry to here about your loss. That must be frustrating when there is no obvious reason.
