Rough DIY Sump sketch

okay so i am working on a sump design. Here's a rough sketch. Pardon the quality:

Any thoughts or suggestions?

sock or no sock?


err I made a mistake. It's 36x12x16.

If the drain is going directly into the skimmer chamber then I'd recommend a sock. A small little rock can really screw up an impeller (speaking from experience). You can always get a hang on skimmer sock holder though.

I built one pretty much exactly like that one, but was obligated to make it into a wet/dry....basically the same mechanism, should work fine....Go with the sock, its easily placed and safer for your skimmer...good luck

I would do 2 inches between your weir plates, but one inch works well. I only say two inches because one inch spacing seems like a real pita.

How many drains are you using? I always like to double up on them in case if one fails (stuck snails, rocks, corals). I've always used two drains with the smallest possible sock to save space.
