has anyone ever kept one? OK, I realize these are invasive and not native to US, but then again the same holds true for trout. I am interested in all fish and have never seen a post about this one.

keep that fish with out the proper permits and go to jail

Yep. Not many fans in the DNR.

I don't know anything about them other then they don't belong here but I do know a guy who kept one for awhile.

Trout not native? What are you talking about? There are non-native trout in the U.S. but I hope you are not suggesting that they are ALL non-native.

yeah i would watch out..i think its worse then keeping a snakehead...so be carefull who you talk to..

I wasn't suggesting that trout are not native but I know some are not. Anyone know which ones are not native to U.S.? My search was unsuccessful.

Brown trout are originally from Europe, around Germany. I am pretty sure that all the others are native to the U.S. but not native to certain regions. Rainbow trout come from the west and have been introduced into the east, the opposite is true for brook trout. Atlantic salmon have been introduced into te Pacific and some Pacific salmon have been introduced into the east. This causes problems, hybridization between similer species or competition.
