I've got the chance of a 14" royal knife but I've read a few stories about people losing theirs for what seems to be no reason, some people suggested that using prime might have caused it (I use seachem safe, basically a powdered, more concentrated version of prime). Any tips on things to avoid with them or are they just fragile fish?

never heard them to be fragile, especially at larger sizes.
if you can house a adult specimen properly, you want it &
it's a good deal i say go for it. nothing ever dies for "no -
reason"... a unknown reason maybe but not no reason.
could have been bad water parameters, n0/ammonia
spikes or anything else.

Might be overdosing and oxygen deprivation.

Prime and most dechlorinators contain sodium thiosulphate as an active ingredient, which consumes oxygen, so maybe if heavily dosed could cause issues.

RD. RD. could you help?
