i , i picked up a L190 royal at about 2 inches the other week ,, i went back for a second one today but at the same size it looked a lot duller, the one i have has vivid yellow stripes and the one in the shop has very dark grey stripes , are they the same but different moods or something ,,

i am interested in the reason for colour diference ,
cheers

my L190 doesnt have what i would say is vivid yellow stripes, more of a dull greyish yellow like your describing, could be just the fish, but we cant forget that the lfs might not have the best tank or water like im sure your tank does, so it might perk up and show its colors when you get it in your tank or it might just stay dull like that. When i bought my royal at 2 inches there was a medusa in the same tank, its been 3 months or so, mines over doubled and when i went to the store again the medusa was still in there and guess what, same size as it was 3 months ago. Theres also seems to be 1000's of different species and subspecies of plecos, so it might be tough to tell, mabye a pic of it might help someone identify.

the one in the shop looks very much the same shade as your one zum14,, so as i got confused i thought i would check to see if there are any differences to look out for ,,

if you go to www.planetcatfish.com you can use there Cat-e-log and search by L numbers, and have a browse, theres L027a,b,c and L190 are all royal plecos, so they could all be variations of these. who knows.... i just know that there good lookin fish, yours is really nice and bright. what type of plant is that, i heard them royals will eat most plants as there veggies.

not sure on the plant ,, looks a bit like heather lol,, there is also some long leaves growing off it too ,, yeah you guesed it , i know nothing about plecs and plants lol,,

i will ask the shop the name of the plant for you , they have a huge tank full of bogwood bits with plant on ,,
i will check out the link but it just looks like a shade difference as everything else looks like L190

The feathery stuff on the driftwood is java moss

If the pictures are true to life you have a very attractive one.

thankyou , i am quite pleased with it , i read the article , its very interesting , i noticed the third pic down in the article shows a L190 that seems to have brighter stripes like mine ,,

so it seems they actually eat the bogwood then ,, at least it will not go hungry then lol,

i will buy the other one tomorrow and try and get a pic of them together
