what do u guys feed your royals? mine hides behind my filter all day and when i drop a wafer in, i don't see him go for it. it takes a long time for him to get off the back of my filter intake to nibble on the wafer for couple seconds then he goes back to sucking the tank.

It's been years since my older ones have had LFS fish foods and now they don't touch it. I bought a bunch from kens fish and they just ignore it. My newer additions will eat it but like the fresh veggies a lot more.

I feed them every otherday

This is what they get rotated on a regular but green peas, carrots, turnips and wood makes up most of their diet.

Green peas shell on
Carrots
Turnips
Squash of all types
Sweet potato skin on
Watermelon shell and some flesh
Coconut shell and flesh shells also adds a lot of tannins to the water
Fresh figs
Dandelion greens
Endive
Snow peas
Sugar snap peas
Alf alfa sprouts
Grape fruit
Orange
Clementines
Dates
Peaches
Pears
Chinese broccoli
Buck choy
Parsnip
Radish
And whatever I see when shopping that looks like they will enjoy it. I first check out if it's ok for them by doing a google search and reading about that fruit or vegetable.
 
I have 4 royals and they only eat at night normally. Before I go to bed I drop a few slices of cucumber, squash, carrots or whatever veg is on hand. Next morning wake up and take whatever bits are left out of the tank. They will come out during the day but the wont eat the veg just the wood in the tank.

thanks for the help.. i kinda been noticing that mines also eats during the night and i dont have wood in my tank yet, still trying to sink my wood taking way to long. So yea, since i dont have wood in my tank he hides behind the filter intake all day long, even at night he does that and scarcely comes out at night. when the lights are on he almost never comes out
 
What would you all say is their preferred food? And cucumbers suck because they cloud the water and don't sink.
 
Mine looooooves sweet potato and zuccini. The potato doesn't cloud the water at all for me. Mine also eats wood like there is no 2morow. They seem to require more wood in their diet as they get older in my experience. HTH!
 
do sweet potatoes sink or float at the top? and do u boil it or just rinse and throw it in the tank?
