Royal Pleco Groth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends on how big it is to start with. The first 5" go by pretty quick, after that, they slow down quite a bit.

its true I'm told if there are two royals in the same tank that the larger one will secrete pheremones to inhibit growth of other competitors...

wyldfya will know :)

Is that true?

I am not sure if that is true or not. My plecs seem to be growing just fine, even though I have two L190's in the tank. In fact, the second L190 was bought months after the first, and was almost half the size of the older one. Now they are equal in size. -Andrew

I've never had that happen. I'd say it is not true. I've had numerous large royals together, and never have had a slower growth rate on the smaller royal. I could see this being true however in a cramped condition with only one place to hide for both royals.

how about aggression between two royals?

I ask because I hope to pick up a second royal this weekend possibly, but don't want them to be miserable in each others company.

I've got a 180g, two large pieces of driftwood on opposite ends of the tank, current lorricarids include a royal and a clown (Panaque maccus).

TIA

Nice fish you have there but a question. Do these fish move at all during the day? I watched some at my LFS and they were just holding on to a log, never moving. I guess they move at night.
