I'm looking at getting another pleco. I like that the Royal looks cool and gets fairly big. I know they grow slow so it will fit in with my Clown Loaches :D

Here is my current setup and stock:

125g (72x18)
Filter 1: FX5
Filter 2: Aquatop CF-500UV
Duckweed for cover and Nitrate control
3 decent size pieces of malaysian drift wood (12-18" long)
Pool filter sand
Various clay pots
Tank Temp 78-80

Stocking:
9 clown loaches under 3"
10 australian rainbows 2.5" - 4"
3 rubber lip plecos 2.5"
1 pictus catfish 3"
1 syno hybrid 4"
1 hoplo catfish 5.5"
1 golden dojo 2.5"
1 dwarf guorami
4 Green Sevurms (picking up with Pleco)

The LFS usually has Royal's, Golden Royal's then the more common bristtlenose, etc..

I'm trying to add some Pleco's for the "unusual" factor. I miss my old oddball tanks but I've never really had Plecos. So would the Royal be a good choice, or something else? Maybe something else in addition to the Royal?

Sounds like a good tank for a royal and/or some other "fancy" plecs. My only concern would be feeding them with all the other bottom dwellers, but if you offer foods like algae wafers and zucchini after dark then they should be able to get plenty. I find having more bottom feeders actually makes it easier to feed them, as you can chuck in plenty of food and know that it's all going to get cleaned up.

I do not see an issue with this . I have one with My clowns and he does fine . If you get one keep an eye on his belly if in starts to sink in you may consider feding more or moving him/her.

The LFS didn't have any in stock. They had a 4" Butterfly Pleco but I wasn't overly impressed with it, not for $30 at least. I'll check back with this LFS next month.
