Just some pictures to share with all my experience with my royal pleco.

Besides wood, royal pleco, as far as my specimen is of concerned, demands loads and loads of green food as part of his diet. Here he is chewing up a stalk of spinach of similar length as him (meant for a blue phantom and bristlenose pleco as well but he end up eating most of the stalk)

Last picture shows the remains of that stalk after 3hours

And so there is a protective layer that helps to cover some or most of the light that will reach the sensitive eyes of the plecos...


And these protective layers can be retracted back at night to give the plecos a clearer night vision! Apparently takes a while before they provide the plecos with some cover again...
