Royal pleco question.

I bought a wild royal about a month ago. All he does is hide behind my filter intake. I have 2 big pieces of driftwood and he won't go to it. I have moved him to the wood but he always goes back to the same spot behind the intake. Should I be concerned? Also he is more black and grey without the golden color eyes. Is this normal for their eyes to not be this color?

How bigs your tank and what tank mates does he have? A picture would help with the eye colour but not all royals have red/golden eyes.

Also consider your flow in the tank, is he in the fastest spot??

Sounds like its an L191 a dull eyed royal, would explain the colouration

He is in a 155 with a armoured bichir at 14 in and a black aro at 24+ in. They have never bothered him. he is about 4 in. Yes he is at the fastest flow spot where my bubbles go up.

Add a few powerheads to up the water flow. Also add more cave like wood, as it is likely there is too much light hitting the wood you have, without reasonable hiding spots.

Ah this makes sense. My drift wood is actually right under the light. I will move them and see what happens.

dark places, good flow and oxygen content, driftwood, and a bit more time to settle. I'm sure he'll be fine.
